Fusion in Slaughterhaus (Nneon)
Once upon a time, a canoe crashed into the control tower at Hamburg International Airport. Out came a sluggish mass followed by a milksop. With a mouthful of sludge and a mindful of mixed objectives, it hastily made its way through the light shrubbery of the airport runway towards center city . In its rashness avoiding the Paparazzi of Hamburg's local poo rags, a discharge of dross left the blob. Impurities withdrawn from visionary clarity , apathy separated from hopes for the future. The mass and milksop transformed into a spinning centrifuge, from which the very elements were extracted back to their simplest form in a shower of blazing colors. It managed to escape. A few years later in October 2002, Jyrgen Hall [laptop and painting programs] and Sebastian Reier (volcano guitar and utensils) became caught up in a dispute over a praline and as a result, were both severely clobbered. The remaining clump called itself Augsburger T afelconfect . How fitting - a name that suggests a harmless assortment of chocolates without any indication whatsoever to the fact, that under the watch of this very confectionery , an act of violence took place. The clod, Reier/Hall, soon knew how to make the best out of its newly formed collective pile. The tight homo-erotic formation felt good. The chemistry was just right.
Hall, also known as that girl-swinging electroubadour , Gunter Adler , started to make virtual plug connections (but not only) in his modular synthesizers [similarly , but not only] that transformed the control data for digital information into uneasy , polyrhythmic, pretty-as-a-summer-rain staccati. Thusly , he created an array of synchronised switch arrangements, that aesthetically stylizes, in the way of György Ligeti, a number of clocks ticking at dif ferent speeds. After becoming a living switchboard and a stray commuter between possibilities, he decided to strengthen and praise this current state of indecision as a symbol of microscopic life. Hall knew: rest and tranquility are an illusion and underneath lies the rustle of microbes, the screams of the pending, and the crossing of the Rubicon. Foolhardy in his undergarment collection grubbing, he machined the restless guitarplay of Sebastian Reier with this aesthetic. The dance has begun.
Not too long ago, Sebastian Reier , seam-bursting ideasmith and jabberwonder , brought in a breath of fresh air to publisher drone ST ORA, a static, yet with-good-intentions unsurpassed artist shanty that took it upon itself to lead the Cr?me de la Cr?me of the new electronic scene into the golden age. Reier's communication skills were soon demonstrated through his ability to forge the calculated collapse of his unusual guitar sounds, willfully resembling that of Märklin- W aggons destroyed, with the palsied excitement of Jyrgen Hall's digital chain reactions. Rubbing, scrubbing, drubbing and long explosions are Sebastian Reier's specialties. The absence of sedated delays lifts his sound above any post-industrial incense of the early 90's. Here prevails the present, where improvised intervals react with the partner at breakneck speeds, even in the dark.
Confection under Nneon lights Now our lucky alliance, in the meanwhile a trio [baronesseA - videos], has released their first record on their own label, Nneon. Far from prolixity , fusion in the slaughterhaus presents with cinematic charm, an array of short musical anecdotes that get right to the point. The result are pieces that more resemble the aphoristic works of John Zorn than that of electronic/acoustic music, even though the instrumentation is that of the latter . Crashes and angry , aggressive passages alternate with almost romantic overlaps of field recordings. Sounds vary in many timbres and an occasional transient rhythm loop is no exception. Noteworthy is the element of melody inherent in many of the pieces in transfigured form. The song lengths are like pop songs. Some are like titles or jokes turned into music. Ever so seldom do the works of a so-called experimental release have so much character and identity . Rarely does the marriage between an improvised moment and a prearranged cut montage deliver the goodies. The Augsburger T afelconfect of fers not so much sound design, rather more listening art. And if this expression is just as vague - a harmonious assortment of short Super8 audio films by which the projector occasionally falls from the shelf and the film gets tangled. the new 7" by Le Chevalier de Rinchy. Taken in five-second doses, there's nothing
too alienating about it unless you are one of those flag-wavin' idiot Americans
who still orders freedom fries with their burger. But this contrapunctal baroque
tickle-punk alternately flits, minuets, and waltzes out of a different musical
keepsake box every five seconds! It's so decidedly fractured and bizarre,
so very French, and sucking helium and laughing gas. I LOVE IT! But no one
will be lukewarm about this one. Caveat emptor!

die christmaskameraden are jonathan meese and tim berresheim, both well-known visual artists from germany. meese has a wide fascination for anything from wagner to stalin, and ezra pound to rasputin. on this 7" they play synth, glockenspiel and sing about father christmas and even have a sort of disco rhythm on the second side, which could be seen as the extended dance remix. 'we are father christmas, you are father christmas' they sing. after the rlw and tietchens, this is certainly much more weirder and way-out then those and is a most curious record indeed. play this for your family on boxing day and disapproval will be your share.

Whoa, what the fuck? French outfit that popped up on the recent S-S comp Tete de Bebe lets fly with a five-song single, channeling the kind of stiff, precise mania that made bands like Delta 5, LiliPUT, and Essential Logic great, but with the frenetic drive and intensity of, say, Erase Errata or the Ex. Le Club is a trio with co-ed vocals and virtually no desire to rock in any way, shape or form; instead, they prance about in a fantasy world of cats, dogs, onomatopoeia and truly bent ideas. So weird it almost ends up in Residents territory, but punked out enough to rescue it from nominal interest (can’t say the same for Les Georges Leningrad, which this walks all over). So great, such a strange little record, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. Teenage outcast girls with short hair, in particular, should pay attention. I love France! Headbutt!

Apperentely Jack The Rapper is a sixty some year old guy from
Antwerpen, Belgium, who produced a rather sick record under the name
'Dutroux Rap'. I assume the name Dutroux doesn't need much
explanation. On the a-side, called 'L'Etat', there is the sound of
crying babies and a monotone rhythm over which there is some of
French rap, hard to understand I guess even when French is a language
one masters. The b-side 'Le Trou' is a mere instrumental remix of the
a-side, but now without vocals. Good? Bad? I don't know. I kept on
thinking: where in God's name does Mister Meeuw find people like Jack
The Rapper? Just a question as hard to answer as wether I like this
record or not. File under: sick.

Music on this CD is composed for the MkHAT play IMAGO, written by Maxim Kurochkin with help from Bernard Shaw (it's based on Pygmalion) and directed by Nina Chusova. It's pretty much the usual Oleg Kostrow fare, slightly jazzy, somewhat funny, a bit childish, generally light kind of music. As much as 19 short and sweet tracks, mostly instrumental, mostly combining the nostalgic feel with contemporary technologiesÊ (like that bit where Be same mucho is croaked by a computer).
Music on this CD is composed for the MkHAT play IMAGO, written by Maxim Kurochkin with help from Bernard Shaw (it's based on Pygmalion) and directed by Nina Chusova. It's pretty much the usual Oleg Kostrow fare, slightly jazzy, somewhat funny, a bit childish, generally light kind of music. As much as 19 short and sweet tracks, mostly instrumental, mostly combining the nostalgic feel with contemporary technologiesÊ (like that bit where Be same mucho is croaked by a computer).

Messer fur Frau Muller is Oleg Gitarkin and Oleg Kostrov - two very interesting and innovative musicians from St. Petersburg. Their music draws on sounds and samples which range from bits of spoken word to operatic vocal snippets to cartoon music, all layered over varying melodies. The word that best describes it would probably be "quirky", but that doesn't even come close to describing the wonderful style of musical strangeness found on this CD.
"Iris 'Kiss Kiss'" basically consists of people meowing and laughing over a background of upbeat cartoon music and sounds. "Cat's Felix First Fix!" (yes, that's really the title) has got to have the strangest mix of samples and music that I've heard in a long time. Salute, Adieu!" sounds like Angelo Badalamenti on happy pills. And it just gets better - and stranger!
I could go on and on about the music, but it's next to impossible to describe what it really sounds like - this is one CD that you just have to hear for yourselves!

It has a strong beat (even if it does sound suspiciously like electronic flatulence), horns straight out of Raymond Scott, and loads of space-age sound effects. It's music for surfing spies, for bugs banging bongos on the beach, for cartoon coyotes constructing the trap that will get rid of the roadrunner for good - this time for sure. Highly recommended.

"In the past four years, Claire Broadley has recorded for Irritant, Tigerbeat6 and 555, played live with Kid 606, Chicks On Speed, Le Tigre, Cex and Manitoba, and invited the varied cream of the underground electronic scene to remix her tracks on the 2001 CD 'Reprints'. Her music was recently described as "the logical outcome of Commodore 64s being force-fed down USB cables", and her first full-length, 'The Adventure Game', demonstrates that theory perfectly.
Despite the cautious tones of opener 'Paws', the album almost immediately explodes into the vibrant, technicolour electro-pop of 'Semaphore On The Dancefloor'. It's the Printed Circuit ethic condensed into one song; crafted melodies leading exciting electronic music that can be both intelligent and fun.
This ethic is realised throughout the rest of the album in its many disparate styles, from the tentative beginnings of motorik sensation 'Colacubic' through to the pulsing, rhythmic tones of 'Accent, Voice And Data' and the furious beat-frenzy of album finale 'Binary Jockeys'. Printed Circuit makes a point of only extracting the best from each one, and her love of the three-minute pop song helps keep the wolves of gratuitous indulgence from the door. "Ik Was is a tribute to the elektro band Ich Bin (release : We came to reign, earlier on Pneu). Eight totally different artists contributed a track to his cd.
The opening tracks is a crazy lo-fi electronic pop track by Kania Tieffer. Despite its broken structure, the track is very addictive. It is also one of the best tracks on this compilation. Darker and harsher is RHIN. Their track sounds more like the Ich Bin sound. It is a good pounding track for the dancefloor without being a slick dance tune.
Less serious is the contribution of Volapük. The sound of Lalala spring to mind when listening to this track, as well as that of a traditional chanson. Another highlight.
Pneu delivers a nice and at times strange new release. The professional cd-r looks and sounds great. Even better than most "real" cd’s that are released today. One to keep an eye for out."

Never enough of party ruiners or savers, right. This vinyl compilation brings together few like-minded artists who have been around the label Ego Twister since it's beginning in 2004 in Angers, France. Most (or all?) of the artists are a part of the vital French scene of new and sometimes screwed-up electronics, often playing with notions of good and bad taste. Les Robots Musique (that's Puyo Puyo and Rod Droïd), Debmaster, Amnésie, Yvan + Lendl, Vernon LeNoir, [guÿôm], ladyatone and Ergo Phizmiz - they all sound similar to each other, a mish-mash of 8-bit Peoples ideas and aesthetics (which will certainly appeal to fans of the games Bubble Bobble, Wonder Boy and such, as I am) and, of course, a healthy dose of break and hardcore. In a spirit close to their Parisian friends O.Lamm, Hypo and others from the labels Active Suspension and Clapping Music, or as their worldwide friends Kid606 and Venetian Snares. Should be enough to ruin your party, or save it if it's becoming too
conventional for your taste. Vive la France!

"The idea was to ask some of our favourite sound artists to take part in a compilation . . . and, to our surprise, they accepted. The only concept was that they had to provide a specific / particular / idiosyncratic piece. qualified as a “drone paradise” by lasse marhaug (of jazkamer), the result is a fine and coherent whole, full of extended textures, contrasted acoustic surfaces, subtle and strong.
